Community Service Opportunities

Make a tangible impact in your community. Whether you want to join an upcoming public cleanup, complete a solo cleanup on your own time, or organize a public cleanup for your neighborhood, we provide the tools and resources to help you get started.

Join a Cleanup

With 6 to 10 upcoming cleanups posted on our site, it’s easy to find a local volunteer project that fits your schedule. Here is how to get involved:

  • Register: Select an event below and follow the specific registration instructions on its page.

  • Earn Service Hours: Your event organizer will issue your community service hour certificate. Tip: Always take a quick photo of your attendance for your records!

  • Get Support: Have questions for the host? Scroll to the bottom of the event listing and click Contact.

Your 4-Step Guide to Solo Success

1. Prepare: Choose a public location and grab gloves and a garbage bag.

2. Clean Up: Stay safe, wear closed-toe shoes, and pick up litter for up to 2 hours.

3. Document: Download the Clean Swell app to log the trash you collect.

4. Submit: Email your photos and data summary to earn your service certificate.

Do a Solo Cleanup

You don’t need an organized group event to make a real difference in your neighborhood. Whether you are walking your dog, visiting a local park, or hitting the beach, an individual solo cleanup is a flexible, impactful way to protect local wildlife and give back on your own schedule.

Looking to earn community service hours? You can complete solo cleanups in 1- to 2-hour increments to earn an official certificate. Click below to view the full safety guidelines, tracking instructions, and details on how to submit your proof!

Lead a Public Cleanup

Ready to step up as a leader? Organizing a public cleanup is an incredible way to bring your friends, family, or school group together to make a massive impact on our local environment. For students and community leaders looking to earn community service hours, leading your own event allows you to earn up to 12 service hours!

To qualify for hours, your event must be a legitimate, well-planned public effort. You are required to plan your event in advance, post it directly on our website, and successfully recruit volunteers to attend. Please note that we cannot award hours for last-minute cleanups planned the day before!

Organizer Checklist for Service Hours
  • Plan Ahead: Give yourself time to prepare and promote. Last-minute events are not eligible for hours.

  • Public Post: Create an event listing right here on VolunteerCleanup.org.

  • Engage the Community: Mobilize and lead real volunteers at your event.
