Clarington Island Cleanup / Biscayne Bay Celebration

Please join us at Coconut Grove Sailing Club for the next Clarington Island Cleanup, on December 9th as part of Blue Scholars Initiative's Biscayne Bay Celebration! For more than a decade our members and volunteers from the community have been serving as stewards of this spoil island adjacent to Dinner Key by removing TONS of garbage and debris that continually accumulates there. In this way, our club helps to protect the Biscayne Bay ecosystem that is the home of our sailing community and a treasure for all residents of Miami. Check-in will begin downstairs at the club from 8:15-8:45 AM and we'll head out to the island @9:00. Wear closed toed shoes, bring your own sunblock and a reusable water bottle. We shall supply gloves, bags for garbage and a light lunch after we finish. Children 12 and older may participate, though kids 15 and under must have a parent or guardian present. Community service certificates are available for students. YOU MUST REGISTER HERE to participate, and each volunteer must have a separate registration. Park either on the McFarlane Road outside the gate or in a public garage, as parking in the lot CGSC is reserved for members only. All are welcome!

The purpose of the Coconut Grove Sailing Club is to encourage the sport of sailing, to promote the science of seamanship and navigation, to sponsor cruises, races and instructional classes, and to foster a spirit of cooperation and good fellowship.
1946, the Coconut Grove Sailing Club was started by a group of Miami residents based on a shared love for sailing, a passion for Biscayne Bay and, a spirit of volunteerism in providing community service. The founding members formed the club to provide a safe venue to teach children to sail and to run sailboat regattas for the community. The original CGSC had no club house, merely a storage shack. There were no moorings; sailors simply anchored out in the basin. Over the years, CGSC became a leader in the international sailing community.  Thousands have learned to sail at CGSC, and if you’re just dipping your big toe into the friendly waters of Biscayne Bay, you couldn’t find a better place.
On any given weekend junior sailors routinely participate in a wide range of programs that are run by US Sailing Certified Instructors.  CGSC has introduced over ten thousand children in the community to Biscayne Bay and the sport of sailing with CGSC’s well-known US Sailing sanctioned “Learn to Sail” programs. Each child is taught how to rig, sail the boat, and be responsible for a Pram sailboat, a single-handed boat used for pleasure sailing as well as competition by many children of many ages. In addition to sailing education and race management programs, the CGSC is very community minded. We are generous with our club space, and welcome community non-profit organizations to the club by opening up our meeting room at no charge. The club also offers community outreach programs.
Today, the CGSC continues to be a leader in the sailing community and continues to stand by its mission by offering adult and children sailing classes, racing, education programs and community service sailing programs.  All sailing instruction courses are sanctioned by US Sailing Association.
